A dream of mine made an appearance in Slow Wave this week: Bad Pennies.

Earlier this year I had a chance to speak with game designer Carla Meninsky, the mind behind such Atari 2600 favorites as Warlords and Dodge ’Em. It was a fascinating discussion, full of surprises... did you know there was a Mercedes-branded prototype of Dodge ’Em that featured Mercedes garbage trucks instead of racing cars? I sure didn’t. Carla talks about the crazy early days at Atari and her subsequent work as a manager, consultant and lawyer. You can read the full interview here.

Duck Attack! has been listed as one of 1UP.com’s 31 Homebrew Games Worth Playing.

My favorite quote: “It’s like someone took Adventure and mixed it with Resident Evil 3. Only with more ducks.”

The Toledo Free Press asked me to interview author Theodore Gray, who has a couple of very cool science books out. Gray writes the "Gray Matter" column for Popular Science and hosts an impressive array of element photographs at periodictable.com.

The article is online now: you can read it (and a transcript of the interview) on the Free Press’s website here.

Duck Attack! has been featured as one of the "Top 5 New Games For Old Consoles". Here’s the full list (the other games look pretty cool too):

1. Legend of WuKong (Genesis)
2. Battle Kid (NES)
3. Zaku (Atari LYNX)
4. Duck Attack! (Atari 2600)
5. Insanity (PCE/TG16 CD)

A quote from the review: “Duck Attack! is one of the more interesting ones to come out this year. The graphics are pretty smooth, and it looks like a pseudo-clone of Adventure, but don’t let that fool you. The gameplay is quick, and that darn duck just follows you everywhere.”

Retro gaming site Racketboy.com has put out an Atari 2600 Homebrew podcast featuring interviews with former Microsoft VP and Halo 2600 creator Ed Fries (first segment) and me (second segment.) I discuss Duck Attack! and a couple of my upcoming homebrew projects.

The Sidney Daily News did a very nice piece on Duck Attack! on the front page of the December 15 B section. Subscription-only, but here’s a glimpse.
