Nuclear Blue

In 2024 I lost the ability to speak (and sing.) I promised myself that if I ever regained the ability to speak (and sing), I would start recording the songs I’d been writing over the years.

I now have a collection of demos on Bandcamp if you’re curious.

I’m also on YouTube and Bluesky.

    Pi Snakes! (Sudoku puzzle)

Back in early 2020, I designed a series of Sudoku puzzles to give myself and my friends a little intellectual stimulation during the lockdown. In honor of Pi Day I thought I would pull one of them out of the archives. Heads up: this one is pretty tough! A little math and a lot of…

Music Monday: “Ultraviolet” by Pseudo Echo

I must share my favorite musical discovery of the past year. You may remember Pseudo Echo; they had a big moment in the 80s with their cover of “Funkytown.” An Australian band, they were very popular in their home country, but “Funkytown” was their only Top 40 hit in the US. (As a side note,…

    Some good news

I have some personal news I need to share. On May 3 of this year, I lost the ability to speak. I woke up, tried to say something, and no sound would come out. After dropping my little one off at school, I went to urgent care, where they told me to go to the…

Total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024

I had seen and enjoyed a dozen or so lunar eclipses before 2017, but it wasn’t until the Great American Eclipse of August 21, 2017, that I got to understand why people say that it’s impossible to appreciate exactly how amazing a total solar eclipse is until you see one yourself. Since then, I’ve been…

    Cats sticking their tongues out

So many cats have stuck their tongues out at me over the past couple of years that I thought it was time to make a gallery of pictures of them doing that.

New (to me) Duck Attack play-throughs

I recently came across some cool Duck Attack playthrough videos. Here’s one from the Down the Rabbit Hole YouTube channel: I’ve added this one and some other new finds to the Duck Attack videos page.

    Unboxing the Atari 2600+

It was Christmas morning, 1980, and there were just two presents left under the tree. I had enjoyed the presents I’d opened so far, but there was one thing that I had wanted more than anything: an Atari.

    Requiem for three hateful printers

Today was e-waste recycling day. It came at an opportune time, since I had just been dealing with Uncooperative Printer Syndrome and had finally given up on getting my Canon Pixma MG2522 to work. I had actually liked that printer, and it was a workhouse for several years. But the time came when it finally…

  • Virginia and beyond

    Virginia and beyond

Perhaps the best time to see the Mill Mountain Star in Roanoke, Virginia, is when there’s a full moon directly behind it. Kudzu taking over the highway sign in Charlottesville. I stopped by the Ridgeway Service Station on US 250 in Afton, Virginia, to get a tall glass of cool, refreshing Teem, but it appears…

Today is election day here in Indiana, and I thought it would be a good time to mention my Periodic Table of U.S. Presidents. Read about it here, or visit my CafePress store for T-shirts, hats, and other swag.
